LAND-BASED PSICULTURE AND SALMON FARMING

We own Fresh Water Rights from a River, 500 liters per second, that can be used for Electricity Generation and Fresh Water for the Smolt Size Stage and also for inland Salt Water Pools in our Land. The site is located 8 miles from the Main Port of Aysen, and has two coves from the Fjord, where salt water can be pumped trough our own energy generation and forget about all the problems that carries the normal Floating Cages.

The facility itself will consists of eight circular, Fiberglass Tank. Seawater will be pumped into the tanks through a series of pipes and valves.

Project Description

Patagonia Investment project involves trials of a land-based system for growing Atlantic, Coho and Chinook salmon. It sought to provide insights into the biological, economic, and structural issues associated with raising fish using such a system, and to compare results with similar measures for conventional net-cage systems. A major focus for this project is the economic utility of rearing fish in high enough densities to offset higher production costs associated with this production method.

Performance Indicators and Measures

Economic performance is the principle factor that limits the viability of land-based production facilities and therefore is the primary performance indicator. Capital and operating factors that will influence the viability of the land-based project include:

  • Land value;
  • Construction costs;
  • Oxygen and oxygen delivery technology; and
  • Pumps and pumping costs.

Sources of potential increases in production revenues relative to traditional net-pen technologies include:

  • Increased survival;
  • Lower conversion factors;
  • Higher rearing densities; and
  • Lower stress levels.

These systems eliminate:

  • Solid waste to the marine environment
  • Contamination of the area under the tanks
  • Escapes from the rearing facility
  • Marine mammal kills due to interactions with farmed fish and nets

They appear to eliminate:

  • Disease and parasite (e.g. sea lice) transfer between wild and farmed fish
  • Farm losses due to environmental factors

They significantly reduce:

  • Water column pollution
  • Feed waste
  • The need for antibiotics and chemical treatments of the fish
Closed containment in practice

Closed containment salmon farming on a small scale has been practiced in Canada, Washington State, and Tasmania. The leaders in this technology are AgriMarine, Eco-Farm, Mariculture Systems, and Future Sea Technologies.

AgriMarine — Since 2001, this company has raised "eco-salmon" commercially in land-based concrete tanks. Encouraged by savings opportunities and higher sales, AgriMarine hopes to get additional financing for a new farm of floating concrete tanks that "will yield all-year-round crops of ecologically sound salmon, raised in environmentally safe [closed] facilities — a first in an entire industry."

Eco-Farm — This Norwegian-owned company operates a contained re-circulation system for salmon with a number of important advantages. It:

  • eliminates the waste problem "by concentrating, treating and disinfecting all wastes and waste water,"
  • reduces feed requirements by 30-40 percent,
  • has "zero escapes,"
  • does not require "any antibiotics and other chemicals such as delousing treatments," and
  • is 21 percent cheaper than conventional salmon farming in open net pens.

PATAGONIA SHRIMP FARM

Shrimp farming is the future.

Patagonia Investment is currently seeking venture capital from entrepreneurs, traditional markets and through the world. We welcome all legitimate inquires from potential investors. We own 1000 hectareas in Aysen Fjord, have Thermal Water Rights for Heating Tranference. All Shrimps in Chile are imported.

Executive Summary of Patagonia Shrimp Farm

Patagonia Shrimp Farm, has over the last period brought together a group of professionals whose main objective is to develop a non polluting, vertically integrated, intensive shrimp farming complex in the Aysen Region, Patagonia.

The five profit centers that encompass this vertically integrated shrimp farm complex are:

(1) Hatchery to produce seedstock and brood stock;

Initially, the project will produce white shrimp (penaeus setiferus). The hatchery will supply the necessary specific pathogen free (SPF) seed stock for our farming operation with the initial surplus being sold on the open market.

Presently, there are no commercial hatcheries in Chile producing native species. Location also has readily available thermal waters and will utilize to heat the water all year round. By having our own bio-secure hatchery we can minimize the most dangerous threat of the accidental introduction of shrimp viruses by contaminated seed stock.

(2) Raceway tanks (maturation of shrimp for human consumption and live bait);

Raceway tanks will be pre-fabricated using our own designed and engineered 10' wide X 30' long X 4' deep fiberglass growout tanks. These tanks will be completely plumbed, wired, etc. and ready to be installed on any suitable tracts of land. This system can also be marketed and shipped anywhere in the state or world on flatbed trucks, in containers or break bulk cargo. These systems will be engineered with the latest available technology in water purification to insure that the incoming salt water is of ocean quality and that the minimal amounts of effluents conform strictly to all the jurisdictional laws concerning clean water. Structures will be engineered to cover these raceways to further secure against disease and environmental concerns.

A higher profit ratio is realized if the shrimp are harvested live for bait and/or human consumption. Shrimp will start to be harvested 40-45 days from day of stocking.

(3) Feed mill for shrimp food;

Patagonia Investment will formulate their own feeds for the growing of the species of shrimp that will be produced. Considerable amounts of the primary ingredients for the shrimp feed are produced in Aysen. Shrimp shells and heads discarded when value added processing is accomplished will be processed and recycled into the shrimp feed. These feeds will then be irradiated locally to assure that no pathogens are introduced into the ponds.

(4) Processing and freezing plant;

The company will purchase a local modern processing plant, which meets or exceeds all the latest federal HACCP standards. Value added IQF processing and freezing would be implemented when the more profitable live shrimp market is saturated.

By processing our own product the company will be able to derive a minimum of $ .50 up to $1.50 per pound additional profit than if the shrimp were sold to independent processors.

(5) And marketing;

The lucrative live bait industry within the Aysén Region and certain highly profitable live food shrimp markets throughout Chile will be the primary focus. The remaining majority of shrimp will be specialty packs both fresh and frozen for Chile.

Future displaced bait shrimp boat operators will be given the opportunity to be the primary distributors of the live bait produced. Their profits will increase due to the fact that their supply will be constant, regardless of the weather, increased demand, or lack of adequate supply in the height of the tourist seasons.
